Manipur: Churachandpur on shutdown mode with 16 COVID- 19 cases
Churachandpur: Considering the sudden rise of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur, especially in Churachandpur district, curfew under sub-section 2 of section 144 CrPC has been enforced in the district prohibiting the movement of persons outside their residence with immediate effect till May 31.
Of the 23 active COVID-19 cases, at least 16 are from Churachandpur district, making it the district with the highest number of novel coronavirus cases in the state.
In order to contain the spread of the virus, prohibitory law has been enforced across the district, especially within Churachandpur town area comprising of areas within Rengkai in the east, Pearsonmun in the west, Tuibong Peace ground on the north and Lanva Bridge in the south

Any person(s) violating the ordered will be prosecuted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and any other relevant laws, it said.
However, services like medical personnel, law enforcement officials, officials of the administration and any staff engaged in COVID-19 duty are exempted from the purview of the curfew.
Also, movement are allowed to those in possession of valid movement passes.
Except the 22-year-old girl, who is a Guwahati returnee, the remaining persons with COVID-19 in the district belong to the group who returned from Chennai by train on May 14.

Since most of the COVID-19 infected persons are from the three institutional quarantine centres in Churachandpur district -- Youth Hostel, Circuit House and SSPP Residential School -- district magistrate Pawan Yadav on Wednesday announced sealing of the centres and declaring them as containment zones.
Incidentally, a 23-day-old baby boy, the youngest COVID-19 patient in the state, and his mother are also among the Chennai returnees from the district.
So far, around 1,400 stranded people have returned to Churachandpur district from various parts of the country amid the lockdown, as per reports.
